Updated: Apr 5, 2020

Hand santisers are a very useful tool to clean your hands thoroughly to prevent the spread of germs and infections. They are also very easy to make at home and below you can see how you can make your own antiseptic gel quickly, easily and economically.

You need :

2/3 cup of Methylated spirits

1/3 cup Aloe Vera gel

5 drops of Harmony Clove Essential Oils

5 drops of Harmony Lavender Essential Oils

5 drops of Harmony Rosemary Essential Oils

5 drops of Harmony Tea Tree Essential Oils

1 empty hand wash bottle which has a pump lid

Methylated spirits

The active ingredient in this hand sanitiser recipe is alcohol, that is, methylated spirits, which must occupy at least 60% of the product in order for the disinfectant to be effective.

Aloe vera

Most of you will have heard how good Aloe Vera is for the human body. There are a number of different products available for skin and hair, but there are also oral solutions.

For external use, aloe gel or oil helps the skin, increasing collagen production. The fresh gel is traditionally used directly on wounds and burns because it promotes healing, with the immediate stimulation of fibroblast activity. It also reduces the inflammation and burning caused by solar radiation.

Its aqueous ability quickly heals damaged skin just as the plant acts on its own leaves. It is also ideal for the treatment and prevention of acne scarring.

Essential Oils

In addition to adding perfume to your hand sanitiser, essential oils will help you get rid of germs. Specifically tea tree, rosemary and clove have antimicrobial properties.

Mix the liquids in the order listed above into a bowl and then, with a funnel, transfer it to the empty hand wash bottle. Screw the pump lid onto the bottle and you're ready to go.

Caution: Highly Flammable. Keep away from fire or sources of heat. Use only as directed. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, and in case of eye contact, flush eyes with water. Do not use on broken or irritated skin. Discontinue use if skin irritation occurs.
